Due to the fact, that there is scheduled only one service with a priest on Fargo for August 2016 blessing of fruits, honey and nuts is going to take place on 13 of August.
About blessing of fruits, nuts and honey also known as the Three Saviors.
The first Savior, AKA Honey or Makkovey, which is the start for the Assumption Fast on 14th of August, is the time for having the honey blessed. On this day The Church celebrates The Procession of the Venerable Wood of the Life-Creating Cross of the Lord. We commemorate the One, who has transformed the weapon of execution into the tree of life for everyone who has faith. People call this day “The Honey Savior”, because by this day the honey of the new crop is being collected, and people traditionally bring it to the church as a visible sign of the God’s mercy to us, the sinners.
The second Savior, is also called the Apple Feast, or the Apple Savior, is celebrated on the day of the Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ, on 19th of August. At this date the Church blesses apples, grapes and other fruits. Sometimes some unchurched people may attribute some magical meaning to the process of the blessing, but it is definitely a misapprehension. The sense of the blessing is to bring to the God the first fruits of the new crops to thank the God and to say with gratitude: “Dear Lord, You have created everything necessary for us to live on this Earth. And everything, that you have created is good, beautiful and tasty. We bring these fruits as a gratitude to you for letting us grow and harvest those fruits as well as eating them”. That is the purpose of the blessing of the fruits – to thank God for the new harvest for the new fruits.
The third Savior, the Nuts Feast, takes place on the 29th of August and represents the blessing of the nuts in the churches. It is performed on the feast of Bringing of the Image “Not-Made-By-Hands” of our Lord Jesus Christ from Edessa to Constantinople.
